The construction of a new downtown sports and entertainment district in Orlando has been approved by city officials. The 8.5-acre complex, which will be built next to the Kia Center at West Church Street and South Hughey Avenue, is set to begin in late 2024. This mixed-use project will feature a hotel, 270 residential units, a 3,500-capacity live entertainment venue, office space, and a variety of dining and shopping options.
Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins expressed excitement for the project, highlighting the leadership of Mayor Dyer and the City Council. David Carlock, founder and principal of Machete Group, Inc., praised the city for its partnership and looks forward to developing a vibrant new place in downtown Orlando. Orlando City Commissioner Tony Ortiz emphasized the positive impact the project will have on the area, stating that it will incentivize businesses and bring people back to downtown.
