In May, we’re celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month, and we want to hear from you about how your pets help you cope with stress. The American Psychiatric Association recently conducted a poll that found that a majority of Americans believe their pets, mainly dogs or cats, play a significant role in their mental well-being.
Pets were found to reduce stress and anxiety, offer unconditional love and support, provide companionship, and serve as calming presences in their owners’ lives. To encourage others who may be struggling with their mental health to share their own coping strategies, we’re inviting readers to send in a photo of themselves with their pet along with a 250-word reflection on how your furry companion enhances your mental well-being.
To be considered for publication in an upcoming edition of Viewpoints during Mental Health Awareness Month, please include your first and last name, city of residence, the name of your pet, and contact information for verification purposes. Let us know how your beloved pet helps you maintain a positive attitude and cope with life’s challenges.
