A group of vandals caused significant damage to the fleet of pink Volkswagen Bugs belonging to the small business Pink Sponge. The incident took place on April 20 at a parking structure in Glendora, as shown in a video posted online. At least three women were seen twerking on the hoods of the vehicles and causing other destruction such as breaking car windows, taillights, and headlights, as well as throwing cleaning products off the parking structure.
Jennifer Ahlgrim, co-founder of Pink Sponge, expressed her despair over the damage, estimating it to be around $25,000 and affecting 18 cars. In addition to causing physical damage, the vandals also carved gang signs onto the vehicles. Pink Sponge plans to repaint the cars, replace various parts and restock their cleaning products. Despite filing a claim with their insurance company, it was denied. As a result, they have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the repair costs.
Glendora Police informed Ahlgrim that all three vandals, who are juveniles, have been arrested for their actions. The small business built from scratch has been deeply affected by the vandalism and Jennifer described it as “really sad.” She expressed her gratitude for community support and assistance in recovering from this unfortunate event that has put them in an uncertain financial position.
