The Red Sox received positive news on Monday as Tyler O’Neill cleared concussion protocol after receiving eight stitches above his left eye. O’Neill, who sustained the injury in a scary collision with Rafael Devers, will miss the next two games but is expected to return to the lineup for Thursday’s series finale.
Fortunately, Devers was not injured in the collision and is in the lineup for Tuesday’s game. Although shaken up from the incident, he stayed in Monday’s game and is ready to play. O’Neill has been performing well for the Red Sox this season, with a .313 batting average and seven home runs through 17 games. He has been a bright spot in an otherwise inconsistent offense.
Manager Alex Cora also gave an update on starter Nick Pivetta, who is recovering from a flexor strain. Pivetta has been playing catch for the third consecutive day as he works his way back to full strength. After dropping the first game of their series against Cleveland, the Red Sox are looking to bounce back and secure a win on Tuesday night.
