Rediance, a prominent international sales agent operating from China, has acquired the world-wide distribution rights for the feature documentary film “The Falling Sky.” The film will make its global debut at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in May, in the Directors Fortnight section.
Directed by Eryk Rocha and Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha, “The Falling Sky” is a powerful exploration of the Yanomami people’s way of life and their struggle to preserve it in the face of outsider interference. Set in Watorikɨ, a community in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest, this documentary captures a unique funeral rite called reahu. It serves as a shamanic critique of the destruction of Yanomami culture and highlights the beauty of their cosmology and knowledge.
Rocha’s tenth feature film is known for its stunning visuals, meticulous sound design, and thought-provoking words from Davi Kopenawa that delve deep into Yanomami spirituality and tradition. Co-director Carneiro da Cunha, an artist and activist who has worked extensively in the Brazilian Amazon, collaborated with Rocha on this project.
“The Falling Sky” is produced by Aruac Filmes and co-produced by Hutukara Associação Yanomami and Stemal Entertainment with Rai Cinema. Alongside this documentary, Rediance will handle Chinese-speaking territories for “Grand Tour,” a co-production project by Miguel Gomes that premieres in the festival’s main competition.
Rediance has recently showcased its diverse portfolio of films at the Berlin International Film Festival. Their latest titles include Nele Wohlatz’s “Sleep With Your Eyes Open,” Qu Youjia’s “She Sat There Like All Ordinary Ones”, Anthony Chen’s “The Breaking Ice”, among others.
