NY Waterpark Under Investigation by Health Department Following Near Drowning

An investigation is currently underway by the New York State Department of Health following a weekend incident at an indoor waterpark. A 5-year-old girl from Hudson, New York was discovered unresponsive in the water at Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark in Queensbury, New York, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. The young girl was quickly transported to an Albany hospital by Life Net and is currently in stable condition.

In New York, drowning incidents at regulated bathing facilities are typically looked into by local health departments or state district offices. Monica Pomeroy, a public information officer with the state health department, confirmed via email that this specific incident is being investigated by the department’s Glens Falls District Office. As the investigation is ongoing, the department has refrained from providing further comments at this time.

Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark opened its doors in 2006 and is owned by Six Flags. In response to the emergency, West Glens Falls EMS, Queensbury Central Fire, and the New York State Police all assisted the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. The collaboration between these entities helped expedite the response to the incident at the waterpark.
