Despite a recent shooting that left four people injured, business owners on Seabreeze Boulevard are feeling optimistic about the area’s future. The incident occurred near Seabreeze Blvd. and Grandview Avenue early Saturday morning.
Lyle Trachtman, owner of Seabreeze Fine Jewelry, credits the quick action of law enforcement to the presence of lights, cameras, and an increased police presence in the area. He believes that these measures contributed to the swift apprehension of the suspect. Police Chief Jakari Young attributes the successful capture of Misael Maldonado to the officers assigned to the Seabreeze substation.
The shooting was carried out by Maldonado during a fight and resulted in four individuals being wounded. Fortunately, they are all expected to recover. After previous instances of violence, including fatal stabbings in 2022 and a shooting outside a nightclub last summer, residents and business owners have advocated for increased security measures. The city has responded by investing in the Seabreeze district, implementing surveillance cameras, additional street lighting, and establishing the police substation.
Trachtman notes that this recent shooting is the first major incident since the substation opened, highlighting its effectiveness in improving safety. The suspected shooter faces multiple charges of attempted murder and authorities also discovered fentanyl in his possession. Business owners and residents in the area are encouraged by the proactive measures taken by law enforcement and city officials to address public safety concerns. Meetings will be held to discuss further strategies for enhancing security in the Seabreeze neighborhood.
Overall, despite a recent setback due to a tragic incident involving violence on Seabreeze Boulevard, residents and business owners remain optimistic about their community’s future thanks to increased public safety measures implemented by law enforcement agencies and city officials alike.
