Shoma Uno, Olympic medalist and world champion from Japan, announces retirement from figure skating

Shoma Uno, a two-time world champion and Olympic medalist from Japan, has announced his retirement from figure skating at the age of 26. This decision comes after his fourth-place finish in the most recent world championships in March. Uno, who has been skating since he was 5 years old, shared his decision on social media, citing a lack of motivation as one of the reasons for his retirement.

One of Uno’s notable achievements was winning the silver medal in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. He also claimed the bronze medal in the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. Despite his success on the ice, Uno has expressed that continuing to compete has become increasingly challenging.

A formal retirement ceremony for Shoma Uno is scheduled to take place on May 14 in Tokyo. His departure from competitive figure skating marks the end of an illustrious career that has spanned many years. Uno’s legacy as a talented and accomplished skater will certainly be remembered in the world of figure skating.
