Ludvig Åberg, the 24-year-old Swede ranked sixth in the Official World Golf Ranking, has withdrawn from this week’s Wells Fargo Championship due to a knee injury. This news comes as a disappointment for fans who were eagerly anticipating his first appearance at Quail Hollow Club.
After consulting with his doctors, Åberg has decided to take some additional time to rest and recover from his knee issue. Although he did not specify which knee was injured, he expressed his excitement about playing in next week’s PGA Championship and is looking forward to getting back on the course soon.
In his last major appearance at the Masters, Åberg finished as the runner-up, marking his first career major start. He had not played since finishing T-10 the following week at the RBC Heritage. With Åberg withdrawing from the Wells Fargo Championship, Peter Malnati will take his spot in the field through the Aon Next 10, ensuring that there will still be 69 players competing.
