After being claimed off waivers from the Mets, right-handed reliever Michael Tonkin has been added to the Yankees roster. This move comes as a relief for Tonkin, who has been designated for assignment three times this season.
Tonkin started the season with the Mets but was eventually DFA’d and traded to the Minnesota Twins for cash considerations. He only appeared in one game for the Twins before being DFA’d once more and picked up by the Mets. However, he made just two appearances before being DFA’d by the Mets yet again.
Despite having a 6.00 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 9.0 innings over six appearances this season, Tonkin has had a challenging year. In order to add Tonkin to the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated right-handed pitcher McKinley Moore for assignment. With this new opportunity, Tonkin hopes to turn things around and make a positive impact on the Yankees’ bullpen.
