The 2024 IIHF World Championship will see two talented Finnish players, Valtteri Puustinen and Jesse Puljujarvi, represent their country on the international stage. Puustinen and Puljujarvi have both been chosen to play for Team Finland, with the tournament taking place from May 10-26 in Prague and Ostrava, Czechia.
Puustinen is a 24-year-old forward who has had a standout season with Pittsburgh. In 52 games this season, he scored 20 points (5G-15A), leading Penguins rookies in goals, assists, and points. He also played 24 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, recording 13 points and leading the team with three points in two playoff games.
Puljujarvi is another talented forward who will be representing Finland at the World Championship. At just 25 years old, he joined Pittsburgh on a professional tryout in December 2023 and signed a two-year contract with the Penguins on February 4. In his first season with Pittsburgh, he played 22 games, scoring four points. Prior to joining Pittsburgh, he tallied nine points in 13 games with the WBS Penguins.
Team Finland’s preliminary round schedule for the tournament has already been released, although broadcast information is yet to be announced at a later date. Both Puustinen and Puljujarvi are sure to be valuable assets to their team as they look to compete for gold on home ice.
