U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS), recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Hardy County Health Department in Moorefield. The project, funded by Capito in 2023, aims to develop a new health department and Food Service Training Facility to cater to the needs of the growing community. It will enhance medical services, expand food service options, and provide educational opportunities to residents.

Capito highlighted that Hardy County, a rapidly growing area in West Virginia, is a beacon for the state. The collaborative effort between federal, state, and local levels has made this project possible. The new health department will address the health, food service, and educational needs of the community in Hardy County. Capito expressed her pride in supporting this initiative and anticipates its positive impact on the region.

Mallie Combs, Executive Director of the Hardy County Rural Development Authority, commended Capito for her continuous support and understanding of community needs. The partnership with Senator Capito has been fruitful for the development of Hardy County, and her presence at the groundbreaking ceremony was appreciated.

In May 2023, Senator Capito secured a $474,000 loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Grant Program to contribute to the construction of the new health facility in Moorefield. This funding will play a crucial role in bringing the project to fruition and improving the overall healthcare services and educational opportunities available in Hardy County.
