Our UN teams work in 162 countries and territories, striving to tackle a wide range of priorities such as climate change, food security, gender equality, and the safety of civilians. Resident Coordinators and their teams employ innovative problem-solving approaches to better serve communities.
This month has seen some remarkable achievements by our teams. On Tuesday, April 16th, our team in Ukraine led by Resident Coordinator Denise Brown released a report highlighting the results of efforts to assist communities recover from the devastation of war. More than 20 UN agencies have been involved in these initiatives, providing support to small businesses, repairing homes, schools, hospitals and building new energy infrastructure. In 2023 alone, our team has implemented over half a billion dollars in recovery initiatives – more than double the amount from the previous year! This investment has benefited 6 million people by installing new heating, water and energy infrastructure; supported thousands of businesses; repaired hundreds of schools; and provided skills training to nearly 320 thousand individuals. Donors have contributed almost $1.1 billion towards these efforts which is about 42% of the amount requested for recovery programs in Ukraine over the past two years. Despite these accomplishments, continued support is crucial as our team’s recovery efforts complement the ongoing humanitarian response to Russia’s invasion.
