Unifor emphasizes the importance of fair pay and working conditions for all healthcare workers to ensure quality public health care for everyone in Ontario. Negotiations have begun for Unifor’s Northern Group, which includes 15 acute care units from Locals 229 and 1359 in Northern Ontario. The bargaining committee is encouraged by the recent wage gains and other improvements secured by OCHU-CUPE and SEIU Healthcare. Unifor, along with these two unions, is committed to a 10-point Solidarity Pact to protect public health care and advocate for better worker pay.
Unifor’s Ontario Regional Director, Samia Hashi, stresses the importance of protecting publicly funded health care from profit-driven interests that threaten the system. She believes that if we want a better future for all Canadians, we need progressive change in public health care policies.
