The Summer Science Symposium 2024, organized by the Institute for the Advancement of Food and Nutrition Sciences (IAFNS), is set to take place on June 4–5, 2024, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. This conference will bring together top nutrition and food scientists to discuss a range of important topics related to food and nutrition.
The main theme of this year’s symposium is the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in food safety and nutrition, with discussions on food and mood, food classification systems, heavy metals in foods, dry sanitation, global perspectives on sweeteners and more. The event aims to provide a platform for experts from government, industry, academia, and media organizations to share their insights and engage in meaningful dialogue.
Apart from scientific sessions, the symposium will also focus on science communication. Media professionals and other science communicators will have the opportunity to learn how they can amplify scientific research and findings through talks from experts in the field and a panel discussion with journalists.
The keynote presentation at the symposium will be delivered by Jim Jones, Deputy Commissioner of Human Foods at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Attendees can look forward to an evening reception on June 4th which provides them with a chance to network and socialize outside of formal sessions.
