USC Heisman winner Reggie Bush to receive trophy back 20 years after forfeiture

In 2005, Reggie Bush won the Heisman Trophy while playing for USC. However, in 2010, he forfeited the trophy after USC faced sanctions for violations that included Bush receiving improper benefits during his time with the Trojans. Now, almost 20 years later, Bush is set to receive the trophy back as part of an anniversary celebration.

The recent changes in college athletics have allowed college players to earn money from their name, image, and likeness. Michael Comerford, the president of the Heisman Trophy Trust, stated that this was one of the reasons why Bush will be getting his trophy back.

Bush expressed his excitement about reuniting with his fellow Heisman winners and being part of the prestigious legacy of the Heisman Trophy. He also mentioned that he is honored to rejoin the Heisman family and looks forward to collaborating with the Trust to further advance the values and mission of the organization.

Other Heisman winners have shown their support for Bush’s return, including Johnny Manziel. Manziel stated that he would boycott the ceremony until Bush was reinstated. The news of Bush receiving his trophy back means that both him and Manziel could potentially be present at the 2025 festivities. This move symbolizes a significant moment in the history of college athletics as it showcases how rules and regulations have evolved to better support and empower student-athletes.
