Tim McNamara, a 41-year veteran of Vanderbilt University, has been appointed as the dean of the College of Arts and Science. McNamara has been serving as the interim dean for the college since July 2023 and will officially start his two-year term on July 1.
Throughout his tenure at Vanderbilt, McNamara has held various positions within the university, including an instructor in 1983, professor in the Department of Psychology, chair of the Psychology department, and associate provost for faculty. He currently holds the Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Chair in Social and Natural Sciences.
McNamara is recognized for his strategic insights, collaboration, and dedication to the university. Cybele Raver, the Vanderbilt provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, expressed confidence in McNamara’s ability to lead the College of Arts and Science into a transformative phase of growth and progress.
