Schafer from VCSU emerges victorious at trap shoot state championship

The Valley City State University (VCSU) Trap Club recently participated in the North Dakota State Collegiate Trap Shoot on April 27. Despite the windy conditions, the team performed exceptionally well, with Kaden Schafer, a freshman majoring in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences, winning first place in Singles Trap with a score of 93 out of 100.

VCSU’s top shooters for the day included Schafer, Logan Heen, Brooke Gaudry, Grant Larson, and Derek Jacobs. The club advisor and professor, Dr. Nick Galt, expressed excitement about the event and praised the competitiveness of the sport. He also mentioned how great it was to compete against other collegiate teams in the region.

Schafer was particularly pleased with his performance and emphasized the mutual respect among competitors, especially during intense shoot-offs. He stated that it was an honor to be part of such a talented group of individuals who share a passion for this sport.

VCSU plans to introduce an intercollegiate Shooting Sports team in the upcoming fall season. Those interested in learning more about the VCSU Trap Club or the new Shooting Sports team can reach out to Dr. Galt at nicholas.galt@vcsu.edu or by calling 701-845-7459.
