WASD Division B Science Olympiad Team Shines at State Tournament with 13 Medals and New Record

Congratulations to the winners of the State Tournament from Waynesboro Science Olympiad!

The WASD Division B Science Olympiad team had a successful weekend at the State Tournament held at Penn State Altoona on Saturday, April 27, 2024. After qualifying at the Central Regional Tournament, the team competed against 35 other school districts who had also won in their regional tournaments. In total, 73 districts started the year with teams, making the competition fierce.

The WASD team won an impressive 13 medals, making them the best group the school district has ever had. This achievement surpassed their previous record of five medals won in three previous state appearances. The highlight of the day was Caiden Shacreaw and Tyler Rooney winning the state championship in the Crime Busters event. Several students also won two medals on the day, showcasing their talent and dedication.

The awards and events that stood out included: Maycie Bitner and Brenna Hollingsworth earning 4th Place in Write it, Do It; Izzy Bupp taking home a medal in Ecology; and Caiden Shacreaw, Tyler Rooney, and Izzy Bupp earning recognition for their performance in Anatomy and Physiology (Cardiovascular, Lymphatic, and Excretory Systems). These diverse skills showcase the team’s dedication to multiple areas of science competition.
