Apple Inc has renewed talks with OpenAI about using their generative artificial intelligence technology for new features on the upcoming iPhone. According to a report by Bloomberg News on Friday, discussions have resumed between the two companies about a potential agreement and how OpenAI’s features could be integrated into iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system.
While both Apple and OpenAI have yet to provide any comments in response to media requests, it is known that Apple is considering integrating generative AI technology into its products. Last month, Bloomberg reported that Apple was also discussing the possibility of licensing Google’s Gemini chatbot for new iPhone features. However, it is not clear if Apple will ultimately choose to partner with Google or other providers.
Compared to competitors like Microsoft and Google, Apple is considered slower in implementing generative artificial intelligence technology, which can create human-like responses to written prompts. In February, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook mentioned that the company was investing significantly in this technology and would share more about its plans to incorporate it into their products this year.
