Azerbaijan and Armenia have reached an agreement to return four occupied villages in Azerbaijan, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan. Aykhan Hajizadeh, the spokesperson of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, confirmed that Armenia has agreed to return the villages that have been under their control since the 1990s.
However, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that the four villages claimed by Azerbaijan are not de jure in the territory of Armenia according to the Alma-Ata declaration. The Prime Minister’s staff announced that Azerbaijan will receive two and a half villages as part of the agreement, as only a small portion of the village of Kizl Hajli and most of the village of Ashagh Askipara remain under Armenian control.
