Persistent car break-ins in busy Dekalb County community causing frustration among business owners

The recent string of car break-ins in one Dekalb County community has left both business owners and workers feeling frustrated. In just the past two months, 18 break-ins have occurred within a one-mile radius around Snapfinger Woods Dr. and Interstate 20. According to police records, there have been a total of 40 break-ins so far this year in the same area.

The thieves responsible for these crimes are using nearby woods and holes in fences as shortcuts and hiding spots. Surveillance videos have captured them breaking into car windows, quickly grabbing items inside, and running off, all while concealing their faces with hoodies. Despite warnings from surveillance videos, the presence of daylight, and the number of people around to catch them, the thieves continue their brazen activities without fear of being caught.

One customer, Quentalyn Stephens, expressed her frustration after her car was stolen in the same area last year. She knows firsthand the feeling of violation that comes with having your property stolen. Business owners and workers in the area are hesitant to speak out publicly due to fear of retaliation from the thieves. Instead, they are hoping for increased police patrols to help deter future break-ins and keep their community safe.
