FIFA: Brazil’s Bid Paving the Path for 2027 Women’s World Cup

Brazil has taken a commanding lead in the race to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, surpassing a joint bid from Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. FIFA’s technical inspection team gave Brazil a higher rating than its European counterparts, positioning Brazil as the top contender ahead of next week’s vote to determine the host nation for the tournament.

Despite being seen as an underdog, Brazil received a score of 4.0 out of 5 in its technical evaluation, outscoring the Germany-Belgium-Netherlands bid. The evaluation team found that Brazil’s plan to use venues from the 2014 men’s World Cup played a significant role in its higher score. The European bid was deemed to have a “high-risk” legal and contractual framework, which further bolstered Brazil’s position.

With the United States-Mexico bid withdrawing to focus on the 2031 tournament, Brazil will face off against Europe for the right to host the next edition of this prestigious competition. The decision will be made by FIFA’s 211 member nations at their upcoming Congress in Bangkok, Thailand. Spain was previously declared winner of the 2023 World Cup, which was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

If Brazil were to win this bid, it would represent a historic moment for both South America and women’s soccer as it would be the first time that any country from these regions has hosted this tournament. All FIFA member associations will have a free vote in this selection process scheduled to take place next week at FIFA Congress.
