Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Massachusetts, is temporarily closing its cancer treatment unit following the suspension of infusion services by SMG Regional Hematology-Oncology. The closure is due to the departure of the unit’s physician, but the radiation oncology and surgical oncology units are still open. The closure only affects outpatient services, and inpatient infusion services remain unaffected.
The Department of Public Health has started referring patients to other hospitals for cancer treatment services as a result of this situation. Steward Health Care, which owns Good Samaritan Medical Center, is currently facing a financial crisis that raises concerns about the future of its hospitals in Massachusetts. This story is developing, and updates will be provided by 7NEWS on-air and online as more details emerge.
