A former employee of CoreCivic of Tennessee LLC is set to stand trial over allegations that the company fired him in violation of state wrongful discharge and disability discrimination laws. The ex-employee, who claims to have suffered from anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions, alleges that his termination from his position as a unit manager in Shelby, Montana, was unjustified.
CoreCivic contends that they let go of the worker due to allegations that he retaliated against a Hispanic subordinate who had reported him for mocking her accent. However, there is also a possibility that the jury could interpret the events leading up to the former manager’s termination differently, suggesting that CoreCivic may have used the incident as a convenient excuse to let him go.
The trial will offer an opportunity for both sides to present their arguments and evidence, allowing the jury to make a determination based on the facts presented. It will be a test of whether the former employee’s termination was justified or if there was a violation of employment and discrimination laws. The outcome of the trial will ultimately determine the legality of CoreCivic’s actions in this case.
