People and AstraZeneca engage in legal dispute

In May 2021, Lisa Shaw, wife of Gareth Eve, passed away after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine from pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. The family decided to sue for compensation, but their request was met with challenges from the Supreme Court due to warnings issued by the company regarding rare side effects of the vaccine.

Legal experts believe that these warnings may protect the company from accusations by families affected by the vaccine. However, many families, like Mr. Eve’s, have made similar decisions to pursue legal action. Currently, 12 lawsuits have been withdrawn while more than 50 people are continuing their fight against AstraZeneca.

Mr. Eve expressed his frustration with the situation and felt that the company was evading responsibility by citing warnings included in their information leaflets. He believed that these warnings were not easily understood by the general public and raised concerns about transparency and accountability.

In response to this issue, the government launched a Vaccine Injury Payment Scheme that compensates victims up to £120,000. However, Mr. Eve believes this amount is insufficient and called on ministers and pharmaceutical companies to engage in dialogue with affected families. He believes they have a moral responsibility to support those who have experienced negative effects from the vaccine.

Despite the legal challenges faced by Mr. Eve’s family and others like them, independent studies have shown that the AstraZeneca vaccine is effective in combating Covid-19 and has saved millions of lives globally. The World Health Organization has deemed it safe and effective for individuals aged 18 years old and above with rare dangerous side effects being very low-frequency events.

The first lawsuit related to an incident involving blood clots was filed by Jamie Scott who suffered permanent brain damage after receiving the vaccine in April 2021. His wife has vowed to continue fighting for justice for families affected by this vaccine.

Recently, AstraZeneca announced its worldwide recall of its Covid-19 vaccine as demand decreased while new generation vaccines became available, signaling a shift in their approach towards addressing concerns about safety issues associated with their product.
