Europeans must take responsibility for their own security and not rely on America to do it for them, especially with Trump in office. There is a growing sense in Washington that Europe should be able to handle its own security against Russia. However, the lack of united action and leadership from European countries is causing concern in the US.
For Europe to maintain American support and strengthen its relationship with the US, there needs to be a shift in attitude towards taking on a greater burden of defense. Committing to increased defense spending, setting up a fund for military aid to Ukraine, and presenting concrete plans for NATO at the upcoming summit could demonstrate to the USA that Europe is serious about its security.
