On July 20, 2024, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) aims to break the Guinness World Record for the most chess games played in 24 hours. This event will coincide with FIDE’s centennial celebration as well as International Chess Day. Individuals from all over the world can participate in this celebration, whether through online or offline platforms.
To participate, individuals must play at least one 5-minute chess game on websites such as chess.com or lichess.com during the allotted time frame of 24 hours. Those who prefer offline participation can find information on nearby events listed on the FIDE website and take part in the Guinness World Record attempt.
Event organizers interested in hosting their own tournament can visit the FIDE website for details on eligibility criteria. Registration will be open until July 15, 2024 and results confirming the number of games played must be submitted after the attempt.
