John Taylor, a former 49ers wide receiver, has been enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He joins an esteemed group of 49ers legends, including Patrick Willis, Keena Turner, Harris Barton, Dwight Clark, Joe Montana, George Seifert, Jerry Rice and many others who are already honored in the Hall. Originally drafted in the third round (76th overall) in the 1986 NFL Draft from Delaware State, Taylor spent his entire 10-year NFL career with San Francisco.
During his time with the team, Taylor made two Pro Bowl appearances in 1988 and 1989. He was a critical contributor to their success as they won three Super Bowl championships (XXIII, XXIV and XXIX). In addition to being an outstanding wide receiver on the field, he also had a significant impact on special teams. Taylor holds the franchise record for most punt returns in 49ers history with 149 returns for 1517 yards and two touchdowns. His longest punt return still stands at 95 yards against Washington during the 1998 season.
Taylor’s induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame solidifies his place as one of the greatest players in 49ers history. Throughout his career, he amassed an impressive record of 347 receptions for 5598 yards and 43 touchdowns. His legacy will forever be remembered as a vital member of one of the most successful teams in NFL history.
