The popular TV series Schmigadoon! is making its way to the stage as a musical production. The world premiere of the Schmigadoon! stage musical was announced by the Kennedy Center’s Broadway Center Stage in Washington D.C. The run is set for January 31 to February 9, 2005 at the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater.
The musical is based on the Emmy-winning series that aired for two seasons on Apple TV+ from 2021-2023. It will follow two New York doctors, Josh and Melissa, who go backpacking in an attempt to save their failing relationship but instead find themselves lost in the woods and trapped in the magical town of Schmigadoon, which resembles a classic Golden Age musical.
Casting for the stage musical has not yet been announced, but fans of the series can expect to see some familiar faces make their way back onto the stage. The production will feature songs from the series’ Grammy-nominated score, including the Emmy-winning “Corn Puddin’”, as well as new songs that are sure to delight audiences.
Schmigadoon! was created by series creator and composer Cinco Paul, with direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli (Death Becomes Her, Newsies). The show featured a diverse ensemble cast led by Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key.
