Tragic Fire at Carmel Strip Mall Leaves One Dead, Another Injured and Two Firefighters Hurt

One person dead, another hospitalized following morning fire at Carmel business

One person was killed and another injured in a fire that broke out at a strip mall in Carmel early Thursday morning. The Carmel Fire Department responded to the blaze at 3:30 a.m. in the 9800 block of N. Michigan Road, where the fire was discovered inside one of the buildings.

Unfortunately, a man was found dead inside the building, and another person was taken to Eskenazi Hospital with fire-related injuries. Additionally, a Carmel firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling the flames.

The incident has caused safety concerns on Michigan Road near 96th Street, which has been closed in both directions for precautionary measures. Tim Griffin, Public Information Officer at Carmel Fire Department, expressed his condolences to those affected by the tragedy and assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire.

“We are committed to providing answers and support to those impacted by this unfortunate incident,” said Griffin. “Our thoughts are with the families and businesses affected by this tragedy.”
