UNC Health pilot and doctor injured in plane crash at RDU, hospitalized

A plane belonging to UNC Air Operations crashed at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) near gate 15, resulting in two injuries that required a physician and a pilot to be taken to the hospital. The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. on a secondary runway at the airport.

The crashed plane was identified as a single-engine Socata TBM-700 owned by Medical Air Inc., according to FlightAware data. The plane had taken off from Wilmington before the crash occurred, broadcastify radio traffic reported.

Emergency responders were seen on the scene, and RDU announced that the airfield was closed for flight operations following the accident. Inbound flights to RDU were halted until 11:30 a.m., leading to 55 delays at the airport. The FAA and NTSB will conduct investigations into the crash as more details emerge.
