In the 2024 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) convention in New York City, Mississippi State University’s WMSV radio station won first place for Best Sports Talk Program. The three broadcasters behind the program, Elizabeth Keen, Tanner Marlar, and Aaliyan Mohammed, were recognized for their hard work and dedication to their craft.
Mississippi State University is proud of the students’ achievement and commends them for their initiative in creating, producing, and hosting the program. Terry Likes, head of the Department of Communication at Mississippi State University, praised the students for taking a pilot class in sports announcing and turning it into a successful program.
In addition to Best Sports Talk Program, there were three other finalists from Mississippi State University at IBS. Olivia Beck was recognized for Best Newscast while Amelia Middleton received an award for Best Campus/Community News. The MSU TV Center was also a finalist for Best Commercial/Promotion.
The IBS is an organization that supports college and high school media outlets across the country. With over 3,000 entries received this year alone, winning first place in such a competitive field is no easy feat. It shows that Mississippi State University’s College of Arts and Sciences and Department of Communication are dedicated to excellence in education and media.
