Patriots, Vikings denied trade requests for Justin Herbert from Chargers

New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings reportedly made trade requests for star quarterback Justin Herbert ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. However, Los Angeles Chargers general manager Joe Horowitz quickly shut down any possibility of trading Herbert, stating that it was never an option.

Despite the trade requests, the Chargers ultimately selected Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt with the No. 5 pick in the draft. They also have the No. 37 and 69 picks on Day 2 of the draft. On Day 1, both the Patriots and Vikings drafted quarterbacks, with New England selecting Drake Maye and Minnesota selecting J.J. McCarthy.

The speculation about a potential Herbert trade may have stemmed from the fact that new Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh previously coached McCarthy at Michigan. Herbert is currently under a five-year, $262.5 million extension set to begin in the 2025 NFL season. He is a former Pro Bowler and the 2020 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, known for his impressive passing stats over his four-year NFL career.
