Google has announced that its generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, Gemini Nano, will soon be available on the standard version of the Pixel 8 smartphone family, starting in June. This is a significant development as previously it was stated that the large language models (LLM) would not reach the Pixel 8 due to hardware limitations.
The optimized model will eventually reach more Android devices by the end of the year through the AICore solution, which integrates Nano without needing to connect to the cloud. However, it is now confirmed that Gemini Nano will be accessible on the Pixel 8, with an expected release in June alongside new functionalities with Android 14 QPR3.
In a developer preview, new features such as ‘Summary’ in the recorder tool and Gboard Smart Reply will be available on the Pixel 8. This announcement was made on the Made by Google Podcast, indicating that these tools are coming in the next few months.
