Ranking Member Joni Ernst, a U.S. Senator and the head of the Senate Small Business Committee, has announced her Small Business of the Week: The Cottage of Crawford County. As part of her initiative to recognize small businesses in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst is honoring a different business each week.
The Cottage of Crawford County is a small business owned and operated by mother and daughter duo Cindy and Taylor Borkowski. Located in Denison, their passion for home decor has transformed into a thriving enterprise that has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. In 2020, they purchased the Your Treasure Chest home decor store and rebranded it as The Cottage on Broadway. Their products include quality home decor items as well as children’s, baby, seasonal, and devotional items that are often showcased on their Facebook page.
In addition to being recognized for their entrepreneurial efforts by Ranking Member Ernst, the Borkowskis have also received recognition for their contributions to the community. The Cottage has been named the Best Boutique in Crawford County and has won the Innovators Award from the local Chamber and Development Council. Co-founder Taylor also plays an active role in community leadership as an organizer of Denison’s Hot Summer Nights series. This year marks the fourth anniversary of The Cottage’s successful launch.
