Armand Duplantis recently set a new world record in the pole vault event at the first Diamond League meeting of the 2024 season in Xiamen, China. This marked the eighth time Duplantis has set a new world record in this event, with his previous best being 6.23 meters. The Swedish athlete displayed incredible form as he effortlessly cleared the bar before celebrating his achievement with a leap off the sponge mat.
With his impressive performance, Duplantis is now well on his way to competing in the Paris Olympics later this year. As a strong favorite heading into the Games, he is determined to continue making history and cementing his status as one of the world’s best pole vaulters.
The women’s events at the competition also saw some remarkable performances. Australian sprinter Torrie Lewis made her Diamond League debut by winning gold in the 200m race with a time of 22.96 seconds, just ahead of top American athletes like Sha’Carri Richardson who finished second in 22.99 seconds.
In addition to that, Marileidy Paulino from Dominican Republic won gold in women’s 400m race with a time of 50.08 seconds while Poland’s Justyna Swigura finished second and USA’s Sydney McLaughlin took third place respectively. Finally, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn from Puerto Rico dominated women’s 100m hurdles event with a first-place finish in 12.45 seconds
